Vintage Inspired Bejeweled Hair Comb!

I was going to use this pearl and bejeweled button for something else, the lace and ribbon choker necklace http://tabularasacoker.blogspot.com/2016/09/lace-and-ribbon-choker-necklace.html , but it didn’t look right when sewn on so I then said what am I going to use this button on. Then I thought if I can’t use it then I’ll return it to the store. But then I thought you know it might look good in my hair like the small bejeweled buttons I added to my Something Old + Something New = Something Beautiful…. Flower & Bejeweled Button Headband: http://tabularasacoker.blogspot.com/2016/08/something-old-something-new-something.html .

So since I have dark hair I decided to try and play around and see what I can use it on for my hair, like what type of hair accessory, but then I thought of these DIY hair combs with bejeweled brooches I had seen a few days before on the internet and I thought oh yeah that is beautiful. So I played around with it and saw that it looked good in my hair! So I took out one of my dark brown plastic hair combs and a little bit of white sheer ribbon and hot glued the sheer ribbon to the top of the comb and then I added another piece above that. I then sewed with much difficulty the button to the sheer ribbon and then the one back piece of the button I managed to slide in-between the comb.

Then the day after I found that I wanted something there at the top as the sheer ribbon was so sheer you could see the spot it was hot glued at. So I thought of loose pearls or a strand of pearls there which would look fabulous but since I didn’t want to buy anything new I looked around my craft bag and box and then it dawned on me, lace ribbon! I cut a small piece off and hot glued it over the white sheer ribbon and then I hot glued the top part of the button to the lace ribbon which made it hold it even firmer!

The first pictures of it off of me are of the lace ribbon method, I didn't do any of just the white sheer ribbon method but you can do that the same way just put sheer ribbon where the lace ribbon is. If you do it like me you'll put 2 pieces of white sheer ribbon and then 1 strip of lace ribbon!

So the first round of 8 pictures are of it with just the sheer white ribbon which if you go with that method then you can add pearls or something to it at the top to cover the spot where it shows where it was hot glued at! But the next round of pictures are of it with the lace ribbon which gives it a vintage vibe which is gorgeous and it looks great in dark hair but you can play around with the colors of lace, bejeweled button, and hair comb and such if you have a lighter hair color!

Sorry for so many pictures I just wanted to show it from different angles and paired with different dresses and then the last picture of it paired with a casual knit top to show the versatile nature of this vintage inspired bejeweled hair comb!

So this is one of my favorite hair pieces right now as it is so versatile, easy to make and has a vintage vibe as I said before! I love the look of vintage pieces of clothes and hair pieces! This would go great with my 1940’s inspired dress which I always pair with vintage inspired shoes, jewelry, and hair style!

So this could be used to for an accessory for a cosplay costume for a vintage look or it could be used for a wedding for the bride or bridesmaids or flower girls, ect! Or it could be a gift! There are so many uses for this beautiful vintage bejeweled comb!

  • Pearl and Bejeweled Button- $2.97 at Wal Mart, but you can find bejeweled buttons at any hobby, craft or sewing store or use perhaps one you have already and haven’t found a use for yet
  • Hair Comb- a few dollars in the beauty supply section of any store such as Wal-Greens, Wal Mart, or Dollar Tree, I bought mine years ago and so I can’t remember where I bought it at or how much it cost

Love You Longer!

If I had my life to do over again…. I’d find you sooner so I could love you longer!

I saw the above quote on a plaque for sale at a thrift store and I was like oh isn’t that beautiful! It reminded me of a Rascal Flatts song too that basically was like if I could go back I would give all those years to you or something like that and I always thought that was beautiful!

The above picture is by artist Nene Thomas! I love her pictures and this one actually inspired the love story between two of my characters once!

We live and breathe words....

We live and breathe words…… it was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them. Reading your words, what you wrote, how you were lonely sometimes and afraid, but always brave; the way you saw the world, its colors and textures and sounds, I felt--I felt the way you thought, hoped, felt, dreamt. I felt I was dreaming and thinking and feeling with you. I dreamed what you dreamed, wanted what you wanted--and then I realized that truly I just wanted you. – Cassandra Clare

Ok so though I haven't read anything by author Cassandra Clare because I find the subject matter of her novels to be inappropriate to my beliefs I did stumble on a few quotes from her novels that I am going to add that are very lovely and remind me of things my characters would say to create an AW inducing moment! I hope that makes sense and doesn't sound like I am bashing nor condoning another author's works, I am simply adding a quote!

I think the words of this quote are truly beautiful and wouldn't all of us at one moment or another wish to feel this way or else have another feel this way about us?! Of course maybe not that much wrapped up in another person but it is a lovely thought and I can see it fitting well into a YA Novel as it is in one!

I Was Thinking About the First Time I Ever Saw You......

I was thinking about the first time I ever saw you and how after that I couldn’t forget you. I wanted to, but I couldn’t stop myself. – Cassandra Clare

Ribbon Bookmark!

I used 1 foot and 3 inches of lace ribbon, but you can choose any color or type of ribbon you so fancy for this project, that I had bought at Dollar Tree to make this after I was looking for a DIY bookmark on the internet. I found a site and pretty much eye balled it to make it and only read a little bit of how to make it as the site wouldn’t operate very well on my phone where I was looking it up on.

So I measured the lace out by eye balling it but you can measure it out to fit what ever book or journal you want or you can make a small, medium, and large one and use them for different size books and journals. My size fit most books and journals I have!

So since I wanted something besides black I decided not to use my pony-tail holders as I only have them in black so I went to these headbands I bought at Dollar Tree. I used a brownish-red color one as it went well with the lace ribbon color and the color of the button I used! I cut the headband down to a smaller size. Next I sewed the shortened headband piece to one end of the lace, but if you don't care to sew you can hot glue or attach it in most any other way I would guess!

I went through this group of extra buttons and pieces I get with garments I buy and found a medium / large size dark brownish button that matched the ribbon and headband pieces well! It said on the one site to sew it like 2 inches up from the opposite end of lace, not the end with the headband piece. So the button will be 2 inches up on the one end and headband piece on the opposite end.

After I had sewn the headband piece on the one end and then sewn the button on the other end which I did by hand but if you have a sewing machine you can use that which will save time! It’s super easy and then you can put it in any book or journal as shown in the pictures. Funny thing is the bookmark matched the book I took pictures of it on, lol! BTW the book it is shown with- Malice in Miniature by Jeanne M. Dams- is a good book as well!

  • Lace Ribbon- $1 for 3 yards of ribbon at Dollar Tree, or it can be purchased at any hobby, craft or sewing store
  • 1 Button- a few dollars for a bag of buttons at any hobby, craft or sewing store or you can just use one of the extra buttons that often accompany a garment when you buy it which is what I used
  • Headband or pony-tail holder- a few dollars in the beauty supply section of any store, mine was $1 at Dollar Tree for a set of 6 headbands which I have cut down and used

Lace and Ribbon Choker Necklace!

So I found a felt, lace and ribbon bib necklace on a DIY site and I thought oh that is lovely but I didn’t have enough felt to make it all the way so I tried what I could and I thought when I tried it that it was very nice but someone close to me said it looks like a band aid wrapped around my neck which hurt my feelings very much. Another person said the color of the choker just didn’t look right with my skin tone.

So it took a few days before I tried to add some pearls and then a few more days till I tried adding orange flowers and a brooch but none of them seemed to work and I still love it with just the lace so I am adding it here even if some may think it looks funny. Also instead of doing it in a usual casual T-shirt as I do most of my items I add here I decided to dress up as it looks better with a dress then T-shirt obviously!

Oh and if it is an epic fail please no one tell me as I’d rather live with the illusion it looks half way decent, lol, then be told it looks awful and gives me a double chin and it’s not like I’m wearing this in public so no one needs to tell me no it looks bad, lol!

Oh also I usually have pictures available of it off of me so everyone can see what it looks like but I completely forgot to do that and now the necklace still has a few of the add ons on it that I tried and failed with, so because of that right now there are no pictures of it off of me for reference, sorry, but the pictures I do have should suffice! Or of course viewing the original may help as well! Again sorry!

So I took a sheet of white felt and tried to trace a design out which I then cut out but it didn’t go so great but in the end it was kind of nice. I then needed some lace and I couldn't find any and since it was a late night thing I cut a piece off of the petty coat of one of the dresses of one of my old dolls from when I was a kid, lol! So I hot glued the lace onto the felt and trimmed what little was over hanging.

I then decided to use purple satin ribbon instead of white like is shown in the one I found online. I cut and measured a decent amount of purple ribbon and then I hand sewed one to each end of the lace choker. I think it looks good with just lace but because I am no fashionista and others have made fun of it I am not sure I’ll wear it in public but I do like it so I am adding it here.

So maybe this can be a blank slate statement piece and others can add pearls, brooches, flowers ect to it or even make it out of different colored felt and lace or something and make it look even more beautiful or I’ll put the link to the original and maybe others can make theirs look like the original more! • A bag of 14 Felt multi-colored pieces- $1 at Dollar Tree, or you can get it at any craft store
  • Satin Ribbon- $1 for 6 yards at Dollar Tree, or it can be purchased at any hobby, craft or sewing store
  • Lace- I stole some from the petty coat of one of the dresses of one of my old dolls from childhood, lol but you can purchase lace at any craft, hobby, or sewing store or refurbish some where ever you can get it, legally of course, lol!

Did I?

Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.

Just My Ponderings!

We may love the wrong person, cry for the wrong person. But one thing is sure,
mistakes help us find the right person. – Author Unknown

Don't take a good woman for granted, someday, someone will come along and
appreciate what you didn't. – Author Unknown

This is directed mainly to my gal pals who read my blog but also to any women who may stumble upon my blog. I’ve decided to put this on here to discuss my fears but also hopes and just thoughts lately. To my gal pals and others I know you have been hurt and are healing in different ways but the quotes above are so true to you all that we may love and cry for the wrong person and make mistakes but we learn and in the end find the right person through all we’ve gone through. As for the second one it is a bit of a wise advice quote for men, lol!

I haven’t been through domestic violence before and this is not my advice or anything just my words to those out there and my own hopes, fears, and thoughts. As I said I haven’t been through it personally but I’ve had those I’m close to go through it and I’ve seen the effects and because of that it’s made me a tad weary of relationships. I used to be a bit of a hopeless romantic but reality set in but a part of me wants to see the world and relationships like I used to but my eyes were opened to the imperfections of others and bad treatment by some. It’s made me scared these 28 years to ever getting in a relationship because I fear the moment a man will snap and it takes a lot for me to trust someone so if it were shattered it would devastate me.

However I know in my heart that Jehovah God will bring the right man to me at the right time and if it is right I hope I won’t be afraid because I know troubles in relationships happen but I’ll know he won’t abuse me and will treat me the way I deserve to be treated, with respect, patience and kindness!

Life isn’t about just finding someone but if your one who is looking for a companion or partner to travel through life with then that right person will show themselves. I know you will find the right man that will treat you like a gem and protect you and be a support system for you and you for him as a true partnership is!

Until that person shows themselves be strong and live as happily as you can and if that person never comes be content with what you do have! Those are words I’m trying every day to live by because I always wanted a family but I’ve left that in Jehovah Gods hands and if he sees fit to bring the right man into my life then that’s great but if not then there must be a reason so I live each day content with what I do have, friends of a lifetime, a crazy family I just got to laugh at and love, pretty good health if these stupid viruses wouldn’t latch on every now and then, lol, hobbies I adore, blogs I can’t live with out ;~) and blog readers I’m very grateful for and a God and religion I wholeheartedly believe is right and true!

So live, dream, laugh, and love each day to the fullest! Keep your eyes peeled for some day that right person may walk into your life but if not then adore and live for what you do have or are striving to have, a beautiful life surrounded by those beautiful people who enter our lives for a reason, a season, and or a lifetime! :~)

I wish you all the very best life has to offer! And my apologies for being all over the place in this post, lol! It started out as one thing and morphed into another!
